Mark III: Taking Construction Beyond Four Walls

You might not think twice about how the buildings around us function, but behind the walls are complex systems that keep our hospitals, schools and offices running smoothly, from air conditioning to plumbing and electrical wiring. Those hidden spaces, the MEP’s (mechanical electrical and plumbing), are Mark III’s sweet spot.
From construction to service and maintenance, Mark III and their business units, M3 MEP, M3 Service and M3 Components, work with clients from initial concept to completion and installation, often bypassing the need for significant onsite construction. For the healthcare industry, in particular, this offsite approach to construction means facilities can be completed quickly with less disruption to patients and healthcare workers.
Mark III co-owner and Chief Financial Officer John Cassidy says the company’s focus is always on better ways to build. “Construction is an industry where you always have to be innovating,” said John. “We’ve fine-tuned our manufacturing process so we can do more in less time, at a lower cost to the client.”
Mark III’s manufacturing arm, M3 Components, focuses on designing, building and installing panelized walls and overhead “racking systems” that hold and organize the mechanical, electrical and plumbing components. Key functions common to healthcare settings, like nurse call buttons, fire alarms, lighting and lavatories are standardized, contributing to more nimble construction timelines.
“We’re able to build offsite in a vertically integrated environment, which makes assembly go faster,” said John. “Standardizing common building elements also means we’re not recreating the wheel with every project.”
Started as an electrical subcontracting company in 1976, Mark III quickly expanded to mechanical and plumbing, making it a one-stop shop for clients who need everything from HVAC maintenance to industrial plumbing systems. Headquartered in Sacramento, the company’s footprint extends across California.
Tim Aldredge, Vice President and Senior Commercial Relationship Manager, says Mark III is a great example of innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit. “The company has big plans to grow in the coming years, and we’re looking forward to helping them do it.”
