Left to Right: Guillermo Sandoval and Cheryl Bosh |
Cheryl Bosh, Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager for the Bothell Branch, was presented with the 2008 2nd Quarter award for “Doing the Right Thing” as a result of her involvement with the Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation, the Bothell Arts Council, and the City of Bothell Downtown Action Group.
The Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation was established by Northshore residents who wanted to have a local cultural center where they could enjoy the performing arts, engage their children in creative educational programs and experience culturally rich performances from around the globe. Through their partnership with the Northshore School District and the City of Bothell, the Northshore Performing Arts Center now has a beautiful state-of-the-art 600 set theatre on the campus of Bothell High School.
Cheryl became involved several years ago through the Northshore Theater Guild, whose mission is to support the Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation in developing cultural enrichment for the Northshore communities. Guild members participate in a number of ways, including public relations, event planning, and fundraising. Cheryl has filled many roles, including usher and box office, and is currently the Treasurer of the Guild.
Another group that Cheryl is heavily involved with is the Bothell Arts Council. The local community had wanted to bring back the 35 year tradition of the Bothell Arts Festival, so several community members, including Cheryl, worked together for over a year to make it happen. The Bothell Arts Festival is a two day event, with a juried art exhibit, artisan booths, live entertainment, food and fun. Cheryl is the volunteer coordinator for the event- responsible for recruiting and training over 200 volunteers for the event. Her tasks included scheduling, follow-up, set-up and event day staffing. Cheryl says ”this was quite an accomplishment for us, and was well received by the community. The most rewarding part of this job was helping it all come together, all the hours and frustration we spent working on it, and we pulled it off with flying colors.” The Bothell Arts Council is hoping to expand from 2 days to 3 days in the future of the Festival.
Cheryl is also involved with the Downtown Action Group, through the Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce. The Downtown Action Group is focused on improving the downtown business environment and building for continued progress. This committee is intended to provide a forum for downtown business representatives to discuss issues of mutual interest, as well as approaches and solutions. Meeting once a month, the committee invites businesses in the downtown area to get involved in issues regarding parking, maintenance, signage, and various other projects that impact the business development of the downtown corridor.
Cheryl says her best experience with the organizations she volunteers for is all the different people she has come to know, and seeing so many good people who really care about making a difference in their community. For anyone interested in getting involved, Cheryl says “get to know your community and what their needs are so you can better serve each and every one of them and they get your help and expertise.”
In recognition of Cheryl’s community involvement, Banner Bank has presented her with a plaque, a day off with pay, and a $1,000 donation to the charity of her choice.
